Tourism

Saguenay is an outdoor paradise due to the natural environment and majestic fjord. It's also a major cultural destination and an important stopover for international cruises. It boasts a niche of excellence in adventure tourism.

Tourism

Saguenay has extraordinary potential in terms of tourism due to the presence of the fjord and natural surroundings, in addition to a niche of excellence in adventure tourism, its cultural life and its port of call for international cruises.

Nature at the heart of our tourist industry

Saguenay welcomes numerous visitors on an annual basis for both pleasure and business. The tourist industry relies on the presence of 3 national parks and a fjord that's unique across North America.

Saguenay also offers many attractions during the winter months with abundant accumulations of snow, particularly on the Monts Valin, to the delight of snowmobilers for almost 6 months per year. As for anglers, they can't wait to start fishing on the fjord's frozen surface.

Reception facilities

Saguenay has a comprehensive accommodations network (hotels and congress centres, inns, lodges, campsites) and an attractive array of restaurants and talented chefs who will satisfy the finest of palates.

International cruises

Saguenay has been accommodating international cruise ships since 2006. We've even built a wharf and terminal to meet the growing demand and to provide international cruise passengers with an exceptional experience.  These efforts, combined with an innovative and warm welcome strategy, have earned our destination the Best Port Welcome Award worldwide on four separate occasions.

 Niche of excellence

Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean has a niche of excellence in adventure tourism and ecotourism. It's the region with the largest concentration of businesses specialized in the field. Regional producers offer a wide variety of activities in summer and winter alike.

Some of the producers are pioneers of the industry in Québec and have been operating for over twenty years. They've also contributed to the development and reach of adventure tourism and ecotourism in eastern Canada.

Cultural life

Saguenay offers a host of activities 365 days per year. Not only does our city have a symphony orchestra and several theatre companies, we also have numerous festivals that are celebrated on the provincial, Canadian and international levels. Our city was even named the Cultural Capital of Canada just a few years ago.
