In need of hydroelectric power? With the high rate of flow rivers, our city and area are genuine and powerful sources of energy.

Energizing power

Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean is a strategic player in hydroelectric power production. The private and public sectors also benefit from this exceptional situation, which enable major projects to operate and to be completed.

Saguenay is one of two cities in Québec that are both owners of hydroelectric dams and offer a distribution network.

As owner of the dams in Chute-Garneau, Pont-Arnaud and the Centrale Jonquière, the city has an installed capacity of 18 MW per year.

With such a large waterway network, Saguenay has genuine hydroelectric potential with interest from major industries. This is the case for the multinational Rio Tinto Alcan that has a production capacity of more than 3,000 MW and for Produits Forestiers Résolu, which have an installed power capacity of 170 MW. Also, the region is known for its skilled workforce, engineering offices and cross-border expertise. In fact, they benefit from hydroelectric expertise with water flow that sets them apart from the Hydro-Québec reservoir of expertise.
